yeah, you're not understanding the father at all. also, he was getting the place ready to open... calling his restaurant trash with zero customers just shows you don't know crap about how places like that work. he's got to get the food ready and the drinks ready and set up the furniture BEFORE the first customer shows up when he opens the place for business.

you think the little kid is the only one grieving because the mom died? the dad's grieving too. he's throwing himself into his work to distract himself from the pain. also, he's the sole supporter for their family now, he's got to work even longer hours to make sure he can provide for his son. the little girl in the classroom drew Conan and Ayumi a map to, the boy's house. guess where those two show up, the resturaunt. you don't remember the boy's name was the same as the name of the resturaunt do you? that's his father's business. small neighborhood pubs like that in Japan often have the family owner/operators living ON THE FLOORS above the store! when the little boy comes home from the trip to the beach with his mom and gives his dad the souvenir what does the dad say? 'Next time, come inside through the back door not the public door.' just because they live there doesn't mean their family can treat the store like their home.
